OBLIVION

“Oblivion” is the working title for the debut Lennon’s Ghost CD.

As of this writing there are 15 songs completed to be included in the tracking of the disc however the order of the tracks are currently under heavy scrutiny of the project’s sole creator who currently remains somewhat mysterious. It was under this very anonymity that the idea and the freedom germinated into a recording project of original music based on a tribute to the writing, singing, and recording style of the late, great John Lennon and of course that wonderful band of which he was once a founding partner.

There can be no mistaking the music that is the basis of the formation from which this musical project springs, which although admittedly as Paul McCartney may refer to as “derivative” is still original in it’s “own write” as more an addition to a sound that was all those years ago poured out across the universe by four Liverpudlian scruffs.

This music is a tribute in name only because it is not performed by a tribute band. The driving force is more akin to a student who grew up listening to a certain music as the soundtrack to his life and in return has become a disciple seeding the same musical notes of peace and love down life’s path of experimentation, growth and discovery.

It’s not like this path has not been previously tread. It is unlikely that a time-machine is used to step back and be the first one to go from mono to stereo or from a band recording into one microphone in a one take manner to recording on two, then four, then eight tracks, etc. However, out of the sheer fact that Lennon’s Ghost is a child of the old school of recording that the music contained within this particular reality is in fact recorded and mixed in the ways of old. This is not cut and paste pro-tools or cubebase music and although it is recorded on a multi-track recording machine, it is the vision to have the project be the actual real recording of the performance of the actual singing and playing of instruments. If a mistake is made, it is return to zero for another try, unless the mistake actually adds to the flowering of the song as a whole…not alll mistakes are bad ones. Many of life’s greatest moments could possibily start out from a mis-step or outright mistake.

So it is with all of this in mind that Lennon’s Ghost seeks to find true freedom in creativity through the acceptance that whatever happens, happens. The project which is all engineered, mixed and mastered litterally in a home recording studio means that the clock on the wall is meaningless, in fact there isn’t even a clock on the wall in the studio since there is no point. There are no record company cigar-smoking fat cats breathing down the neck of creativity with looks of “Let’s wrap this up!” or “Make it sound just like Paperback Writer because that was a hit!”

Let’s face it, this sort of music isn’t being made by many people these days. Paul and Ringo still have their stride and are the best, but sometimes even they seem to run away from their roots maybe for the sheer sake of boredom or perhaps in the attempt to always try to reach out for that next thing. It is our opinion however that if it isn’t broke then don’t fix it!

Lennon’s Ghost states uncatagorically to make no claims whatsoever to be on any par with his musical teachers, but after all is said and done, a good attitude with a love for certain sounds and a purpose to continue dreaming that keeps things forever moving forward in the land of LeG (Lennon’s Ghost).
